Jeanie Borlaug Laube WIT Early Career Award

Katharina Jung, a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Kentaro Shimizu, has received the 2026 Jeanie Borlaug Laube WIT Early Career Award.

The Jeanie Borlaug Laube Women in Triticum (WIT) Early Career Award recognizes outstanding early-career scientists for their contributions to wheat research. Katharina Jung received the award for her research on the genetic basis of yellow rust resistance and drought adaptation in bread wheat. Her work explores the genetic diversity of Asian wheat varieties that have been underrepresented in modern breeding and contributes to the development of more resilient wheat cultivars.

Further information about the award and a profile of Katharina Jung are available on the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative website.
